The Lake Louise ski shuttle: free buses from Banff and the village

You ride free and you do not book. SkiBig3, which runs the shuttle network for the three Banff and Lake Louise resorts, says the service is complimentary with a SkiBig3 Lift Ticket, SkiBig3 Season Pass, Mountain Collective pass, Ikon Pass, or Rocky Mountain Passport. The resort's own timetable calls the buses a complimentary service and prints no fare or ticket condition.

The buses are not a timed service you can count on to the minute. SkiBig3 says that ski shuttle dates and times may change without notice depending on operational requirements and conditions. The resort's timetable says the same. On a snowy morning the Banff run can be slow, so give it extra time at the stop.

Two routes collect in Banff and go to the hill, a drive the resort puts at 40 minutes. Route 1 collects from six hotels, from Banff Rocky Mountain Resort to the Ptarmigan Inn, and Route 2 from the Fairmont Banff Springs, the Mount Royal Hotel rear lot and Banff Park Lodge. Each stop has four morning pickups. The times below are the last timetable the resort posted, effective 9 February 2026.

The practical choice is the 7:20 to 7:45 wave for first chair, or the 8:30 to 9:05 wave for a normal start. The 9:45 and 10:45 waves reach the hill late in the morning. Going home, the 3:30 pm and 4:30 pm buses suit a full day, and the 5:30 pm bus gives you time for a meal at the base. The 8:20 am and 12:15 pm departures take people back to Banff early.

SkiBig3's own list of Banff stops for its network also includes the Town Parking Lot behind the Mount Royal Hotel and the Brewster Bus Depot on Gopher Street. If your hotel is not on either list, walk to the nearest stop the evening before so you know where to stand. Without a lift ticket or pass, the Roam 8X public bus runs from Banff to Lake Louise year round; the Banff page covers its fares and stops.

In the village the resort runs its own free shuttle, every half hour through the morning from three village hotels. The times below are from the resort's shuttle page as it stood in January 2026, effective 4 November 2025 to 3 May 2026.

The last morning bus leaves the Lake Louise Inn at 11:10 am, and there is a gap after 10:15. The returns run every half hour from 2:10 pm to 5:10 pm, which covers the end of the lift day. SkiBig3 lists the Lake Louise Inn, the Lake Louise Hotel and the Mountaineer Lodge as its Lake Louise stops. If you stay anywhere else in the village, including Samson Mall, walk to one of these three.

There is no winter shuttle from the ski resort to Lake Louise itself. Neither winter timetable stops at the lakeshore or the Chateau, and the Parks Canada lake shuttle stops for the season in October. The summer shuttle page has its dates.

In winter the lakeshore parking lot is free and usually has space, so the fifteen minute drive from the hill is the normal way to add an afternoon skate. The ice skating page says when the rink is in.

If the shuttle times do not suit you, drive. Parking at the resort is free. In the resort's words it is “guaranteed free parking for your car or RV”, and the lots are beside the main day lodge at 1 Whitehorn Road, Lake Louise. The drive is 40 minutes, 60 km from Banff. Check the road conditions and the snow report before you leave. A morning with fresh snow on the hill often means a slow Trans-Canada.

On September 27, 2026 the resort's shuttle page showed summer options only; no winter shuttle schedule posted, and SkiBig3's timetable app carried only the summer 2026/2027 schedule, valid to 13 October, with no Lake Louise route. This page will carry the new times when the operators post them.

Last winter the village timetable took effect on opening day, 4 November 2025. The Banff timetable changed twice during the season, on 6 December 2025 and 9 February 2026. The resort opens on 6 November 2026 this season. Until the new timetable is out, use the times above to plan, and check the resort's shuttle page or SkiBig3's timetable in the week you travel.
