Lake Louise Parking: What It Costs and When the Lot Fills

The fee is a flat daily rate, not hourly, so a two-hour visit costs the same as a full day. It is separate from your park entry pass and separate from the shuttle fare. Pay at the machines in the lot.

Parks Canada states plainly that the lakeshore lot fills by sunrise and stays full through daylight hours in the summer months. That is the official position, and it is worth taking literally rather than hoping.

Sunrise at Lake Louise is around 5:30 am in late June and around 7:00 am in early September. Once the lot is full, staff stop vehicles at the entrance. There is no queue that clears, because almost nobody who parks at dawn leaves before lunch.

Drive to the Park and Ride at 1 Whitehorn Road, Lake Louise, which is at the ski resort on the other side of the highway. Parking there is free if you hold a shuttle reservation. From there the shuttle takes you to the lakeshore, and the Lake Connector takes you on to Moraine Lake.

If you have no reservation, your realistic options are Roam Transit route 8X from Banff, a commercial tour, or coming back at a different time of year. Do not sit at the lot entrance waiting for a space.

The Park and Ride sits at 1 Whitehorn Road, Lake Louise, a few minutes off the Trans-Canada. Parking is free, the lot is large, and it is where every Parks Canada shuttle trip starts and ends. It is also the only sensible option for an RV, a trailer, or anything else too big for the lakeshore.

Parking at Lake Louise Ski Resort is free, all winter, in the same lots that serve as the Park and Ride in summer. The resort promises “guaranteed free parking for your car or RV” and says there is always plenty of space in its large lots beside the main day lodge, at 1 Whitehorn Road, Lake Louise.

The only paid parking is the Priority Parking Pass, a season pass for prime self-parking spots all season that can be transferred between drivers. It is sold out for 2026-27. Everyone else parks free. The resort does not allow overnight parking, camping or picnicking in the lots, and the camping page covers where to stay the night.

Vehicles longer than 6 metres, about 20 feet, or wider than 2 metres including mirrors and running boards, cannot park at the Lake Louise lakeshore at all. Use the Park and Ride and reserve a shuttle.

Accessible parking exists at the lakeshore and costs less than general parking, but Parks Canada is explicit that it is first come, first served and cannot be guaranteed. Treat it as a possibility rather than a plan.

The shuttle is faster in July and August, and it is not close. A shuttle reservation costs $12.75 for an adult and gets you free parking at the Park and Ride, against $42 for a lakeshore space you have to be awake at 4:30 am to win. Two adults on the shuttle cost about half of the parking fee.

Driving wins outside the summer, when the lot is free and there is room. It also wins if you want to arrive for sunrise and stay through the morning, because the first shuttle is at 6:30 am.
