What is so special about Lake Louise
The colour. Meltwater from the Victoria Glacier carries ground-up rock into the lake, and that suspended silt scatters light back as the turquoise everyone comes to see. It arrives with the melt in June and holds until the lake freezes over in November. Behind it sits the glacier itself, and in front of it a lakeshore path flat enough for a pushchair.
It is also one of the busiest places in the Canadian Rockies. The car park fills before dawn through July and August, Moraine Lake Road is closed to private vehicles entirely, and the difference between a good day and a wasted one is usually what you knew before you left. That is what this site is for.
